Building Resilience Against Vicarious Exposure:
A place where trauma therapists can thrive together!

Trauma therapists deserve to be cared for too

It takes a special kind of person to be a trauma therapist and only badasses know how to thrive here like you do.

While you love doing trauma work, there may be times when you question if you can keep doing it because your needs as the carer are not being met.

Think back to the last time you went to bed, only to be kept awake by your clients’ stories. How recently did you rely on avoiding work or numbing out to cope because that was all you could do?

Trauma therapists know healing doesn’t happen in isolation, and yet we spend so much time caring for others that we lack the support we need. You know how to be a trauma therapist, and you do your best to care for yourself.

The problem is you’ve run into the brick wall that is our traumatized system of care and without fellow trauma therapists at your back, you know you’ll continue to stay stuck.

Breaking through that wall together is why I started The BRAVE Trauma Therapist Collective and I’m so glad you’re here today to learn more about how we can meet your needs as a badass trauma therapist!

The support you’ve been looking for to stay in the field you love is here.

Discover what the BRAVE Trauma Therapist Collective can do for you!

The BRAVE Collective at a Glance

Once inside the BRAVE Trauma Therapist Collective, you will experience what it’s like to transform Vicarious Trauma through my three-part framework:

  • Name It: Develop a regular practice to Name how VT shows up in your life, especially when it’s trying to sneak up on you

  • Tame It: Learn how to Tame vicarious trauma and prevent burnout using creative, flexible, and empowering techniques

  • Reframe It: Rediscover what it’s like to experience vicarious resilience and compassion satisfaction as you Reframe VT and transform in your practice

  • “Jenny was the best possible sounding board for questions both big and small. She offered a unique perspective that really allowed me to broaden my own thinking.”

    -Michael, V., Grad Student

  • Jenny is warm, supportive, engaging, and knowledgeable. Speaking with her always fosters a sense of confidence!

    -Melissa G., PsyD

Hi, I’m Jenny, and I’m here to be BRAVE with you!

Headshot of Jenny Hughes, Founder of The BRAVE Trauma Therapist Collective

I have worked in trauma since 2005. I love this work, and can’t imagine myself doing anything else, but that doesn’t mean I’m immune to the effects of vicarious trauma and burnout.

I’ll never forget the slow creep of vicarious trauma that overshadowed my first year as a fully licensed clinician. I was working my dream job at a Level 1 Trauma Center. The problem? I was alone, without anyone to talk to about my work. Of course I didn’t acknowledge the VT, but my then partner (now husband) sure did.

One day, I got an email from him with a link to a google search about “how to help my trauma therapist girlfriend deal with her work.”  WTF?!?! Let me tell you about the rage…and embarrassment…and regret…that I had let it get that bad.

I get how suddenly VT can rear its ugly head, stealing our energy and patience, tempting us to isolate and check out. I also know that healing is possible, especially when we are surrounded by a community of trauma therapists who truly get it.

As a trauma therapist, I know most people don’t sign up for this work, which is fine! And, that’s why I started BRAVE - a place where trauma therapists can come together, support our collective health and well-being, and finally breathe again.

You might be thinking…

“How could an online community possibly help me with vicarious trauma?”

I must admit, I asked myself the same thing when I first started my journey to create a space that is uniquely for trauma therapists. I knew true healing for me really only happened when I could connect with colleagues to process what it’s like to do my work as a trauma therapist. But, would this support really be felt online? I am so proud to share that, yes, it can

The relationships that are fostered in the BRAVE Trauma Therapist Collective are like none other.

In this community, we are surrounded by other trauma therapists who truly get what it’s like to do trauma work day in and day out. Each and every member is committed to providing honest, supportive feedback without judgment or criticism. We are all here to build each other up, never to tear anyone down.

Real results from real trauma therapists -

What could be possible if you took the leap?

I love everything about The BRAVE Collective! The content and consultation calls has helped me to connect with others in the community. We have learned from each other and offer much needed support. I have also learned a lot from Jenny's content on managing vicarious trauma.”

-Trisha O., LPCC-S, LICDC

“Trauma work and the work of helping others can be draining, even when we love the work! Having an outlet helps me to stay healthier myself. Getting support from others who can relate is part of what I have realized to be key in my personal health equation. It allows me to not burn out, to feel heard, and to have a safe place to discuss my own feelings.”

-Andrea T. Ph.D.

How can BRAVE support YOU?

  • “Therapy is already hard; add trauma to it and the chances of burning out inadvertently are sometimes unnoticeable until it’s too late. Anyone doing trauma work should have a team at their side. The years of experience that Jenny has had providing trauma work allows for not only support to keep going but someone to help you think outside the box.”

    — Hikari W., LCSW

  • “Jenny and The BRAVE Collective are invaluable assets and resources for any clinician working with trauma survivors. This program bridges the gap in resources and sense of community for trauma-focused clinicians and promotes clinician vitality so they can show up more effectively for themselves and their clients.”

    Shara G., PhD, LMHC-QS

  • “Jenny is so knowledgeable about Vicarious Trauma and what to do when you're experiencing it. In just a few short months of working with her, I feel so well prepared in AND out of session as a trauma therapist. I feel more relaxed going into hard sessions because I know I'll be able to address the VT if/when it arises.”

    -Sarah S., LMFT

However, The Collective is NOT a place to just dump on your fellow members - it is a space where we take an open yet solution-focused approach to managing VT and preventing burnout. Also, I take my role as the facilitator very seriously and it is my job to protect our community so we can be vulnerable and courageous with each other in a protected space.

  • Yes! I’ll be available in our private community, on our Signal app consultation thread, and on our monthly calls. If you ever get stuck or have a question, please feel free to post a question in our community or bring it up on the call so I can help. This is also a great way to get support from other BRAVE members!

  • All content and guest expert video calls will be recorded so that you can catch the replay when you can’t attend. These videos are then available on demand in the BRAVE Resource Library when you want to go back for a refresher. You will have unlimited access to them for the duration of your membership.
